Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find a glass jar for this maker?
Anchor Hocking has a 1/2 half gallon (2 qt.) jar that fits very nicely in the maker. You use the plastic lid that comes with the maker to cover the jar while it's in the maker and then put the glass lid on to store the yogurt.
What is the difference between this and the Salton YM9 yogurt maker? Which one is best?
The Salton is temperature-controlled, which means that regardless of room temperature, the incubation temperature will be the same (barring extremes, of course). The Yogourmet, on the other hand, isn't temperature-controlled, so the incubation temperature will vary slightly according to the environment. If it's only 18ºC/63ºF in the room, it takes a little longer, and when it's 28ºC/82ºF, it won't take so long. The other difference is size. The Yogourmet makes two quarts, twice as much as the YM9. So if you live in a fairly temperate environment and don't want to make yogurt every few days, I recommend the Yogourmet. Fewer bells and whistles, and twice the capacity. But if you're the only person eating the yogurt and want a fresh batch every week, and don't mind spending a bit more, the Salton is probably better for you. Either way, you'll have to spend a half hour heating and cooling the milk, mixing the culture, and getting it ready before you set it aside in the Salton.
Really the best for SCD diet?
Their "regular" yogurt starter is SCD legal, but the CBA Probiotic is not. The 4.5 hrs. refers to normal yogurt making and not the SCD yogurt which takes 24 hrs.
