The Yamaha HTR5960 is a full-featured digital home theater receiver ready for all formats. It sports a couple of features that not only improve the sound quality of your system, they also make your life a little easier. Component Video Up Conversion takes S-Video and composite signals and converts them into a component signal. This not only ensures the highest quality video from any source, it means you only need one connection to your HDTV monitor. No more switching inputs according to your source, it can all go through the component video connection. The HTR5960 also has YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer) which uses an optimizer microphone at the listening position to pick up test tones from your speakers, which the system then analyzes to let you know the best audio parameters. The system will even automatically equalize the sound according to the readings it takes, for the ultimate in convenience.

A Quick review - I love this receiver. My main concern is audio quality - it excels even with my 4-ohm ADS bookshelf speakers and powers them to their fullest with no audible distortion. The 'direct amplify mode' is excellent - truly sounds like nothing is between the music and your ears.

The inputs available are extensive and capable. It has plenty of both optical and coax digital ins and outs, and plenty of analog as well. It's a slightly older receiver, so no HDMI, but it does up/down/sideways conversion of all video signals to whatever monitor output you want (component is what I use) which is very nice. All of my non-HDMI signals go through the receiver and it works pretty well.

I use it every day every time I turn on the TV or listen to music, and I couldn't be happier with every aspect, but most of all with the sound hitting my ears. Some would call it almost too perfect - for those I say get a tube amplifier :) But for any other purpose, this thing is awesome. Highly recommended.
