The Whirlpool WTW5550XW is a low-cost top load washer. The 4.3 cubic foot capacity of this washer is enough to get a basket or two of laundry done all at once. The WTW5550XW is equipped with Whirlpool's 6th Sense technology, which is geared toward energy savings. The H2Low wash system has an Auto Load Sensing feature that automatically gauges the size of your load and measures the most efficient use of water to get the job done. This feature can save you up to 30% on your energy bills. The Precision Dispense feature of the WTW5550XW pretreats stains by shooting a concentrated blast of detergent at your garments before the wash cycle begins. This washer is a step up from the lower cost WTW5500XW in that it has 11 automatic cycles as opposed to 9, and an estimated time remaining display. However, the WTW5550XW lacks the higher cost WTW5600XW's EcoBoost feature (which allows you to manually select the spin speed and water temperature), Eco monitor feature (which measures your energy savings), Pre-soak option, End-of-cycle signal and 5 selectable water temperatures (the WTW5550XW has only 4). The Whirlpool WTW5550XW is ENERGY STAR qualified.

I own an appliance repair business and decided to take a chance on the new Whirlpool Cabrio WTW5500x model. Whirlpool had a semi-disaster in their previous model. The design was a hybrid with the Fisher&Paykel design washer. This model is a break away from that design and I think for the better.

I have not had it long and time is the best indicator to see what kind of problems may occur. I do like the wash action of this model. It is a far cry from the Calypso model that was a cotastrophe. For the price and a lack of good alternatives, I think it is a good buy.
