Edit

The Western Digital SiliconDrive III 2.5 is a 2.5" SATA Solid State internal hard drive that comes in 15GB, 30GB, 60GB, 90GB and 120GB capacities. This series was introduced by WD in June of 2009 and is their first SSD to hit the market. Although expensive, they have been rated at 3 million hours mean time between failure which is over twice that of most SSD drives, hence their appeal to military use and professional business servers where system security and reliability are most important. An extended temperature version is also available for use in extreme conditions as well. Western Digital have incorporated a few original technologies to improve the lifespan including a voltage monitoring system called PowerArmor which can detect harmful changes in the power level and suspend data transfer before any damage to the drive is done. Shock resistance has been rated at 1000G's and a 1.8" Micro SATA and 2.5" PATA version are offered as well. SSD drives have advantages of traditional HDD drives because they consume much less power and have no moving parts, are more reliable and have a vastly improved lifespan.
