Edit

The Evolution Series by Vizio is the step-up over the entry level VW series containing improved specifications and features to justify the higher price. Known by their model names that begin with VO, the Evolution Series add a 3rd HDMI port to the smaller televisions, while the larger sets get a fourth HDMI port. On the display side the backlight moves to a dynamic system increasing the dynamic contrast ratio, where the VW series has a static backlight. Picture-in-picture and picture-outside-picture modes are the other two major additions to the Evolution Series over the VWs.

Specs
  • 720p native resolution
  • 6.5ms response time
  • 8-bit panel
  • 450 cd/m2 brightness
  • 1100:1 static contrast ratio, 5500:1 dynamic contrast ratio
  • Inputs: HDMI x 3, Component x 2, Composite x 2, S-Video x 1, VGA x 1

Dynamic backlight - for each frame of the picture the television's internal processing analyzes the overall brightness and adjusts the backlight of the television. Therefore when the scene on the screen is dark, the backlight is reduced to let subtler details in the shadows come through, while brighter scenes will have more emphasis in their highlights.

PIP and POP - picture-in-picture and picture-outside-picture capabilities are added to the VO/Evolution Series to position them above the VW series.
