I have had a Satellite Pro L500 for about a year and have never figured out how to activate the numeric keypad. It has never worked from day 1.

hi there, I have the same model (and also a Sattelite C650D as it is lighter and more portable). If you press the 'num lock' key on the top left hand side of the numerical keypad, you can then use the numbers there instead of the numbers on top of the top row of letters. If that doesn't work, perhaps there is a fault with the NUM LOCK key on your laptop. You can prise it off and look under it to see if there is something stuck under it (crumbs etc) , and check if it is connecting properly. If you are not comfortable doing this then contact a computer repair technician and ask for advice, or worse come to worse, return it to place of purchase for repairs under warranty. I know its a pain as they take so long and charge so much to send it back to Toshiba, so try the other suggestions first, and best of luck.
