Toshiba's Canvio Basics 3.0 USB external hard drive is a mid-range model of portable hard drive. Like many competing passport-style drives, this model requires no external power adaptor and can be utilized simply by connecting it via USB to a PC or laptop. This model is formatted to be ready-to-use right out of the box, and thus simply uses drag-and-drop to transfer data between the device and itself. One of the main selling points is the combination of USB 3.0, which allows faster transfer speeds than USB 2.0, with backwards compatibility for USB 2.0 devices. While using USB 3.0, transfer speed and backup processes should be noticeably faster, especially for large files, than 2.0 setups. This version of the has a 1 TB storage capacity, but it also comes in 500 GB and 750 GB capacities. Note that this model, and the other ones in this lineup, are compatible only with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
