Cons

allies cannot die when being attacked, do not take damage from friendly fire - makes getting through a lot of the game a frag-fest

2 agree

tired plot devices (eg/ nuclear holocaust, human settlements scratching out a meager existence, etc...)

2 agree

a lot of self-referencing books / posters - don't really make sense or fit in

2 agree

linear gameplay

Edit

Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter, survival horror video game released for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gaming consoles in mid 2010. The user plays as Artyom, an apocalypse survivor who must travel through underground Moscow to warn the remaining survivors of “a terrible impending threat.” The storyline is in fact based on the novel ‘Metro 2033’ by Dmitry Glukhovsky and features a strong narrative that relates strongly with the original story. Included are both human and non-human enemies, makeshift weapons, a scarce ammo supply, and a HUD-less system wherein damage incurred is determined by the amount of blood spatter.

This is pretty much Half-Life 2 meets Fallout 3 meets Stalker. Amazing combination, perfectly executed. A little heavy on the system, but you can't really fault it for that - it looks and feels the part. If you need a reason to upgrade your system in 2010 let Metro 2033 be it.
