The DCR-HC21 from Sony gives you a full-featured, compact MiniDV camcorder at an entry-level price. Highlights include the Advanced HAD CCD imager, which captures stunning detail and clarity, and the Digital Zoom, which focuses on distant subjects providing clear close-up images with less distortion. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens offers less glare and increased contrast for vivid, more life-like color and tones.

This is really my first camcorder. For the price it seems pretty good. The picture quality isn't AMAZING and it degrades a little at low light but all camcorders around this price will anyways. The Nightshot option is nice even though it's just an infrared illumination. It works pretty well though. I can actually tell the microphone is stereo even though they are right next to each other.  The touchscreen controls are REALLY nice though. It's easy to use but still has powerful options. The software it comes with really sucks and should be installed. Don't capture the video through the USB either. Video capture on IEEE 1394 FireWire is perfect though. I would suggest obtaining Sony Vegas and DVD Architect to go along with the camera for powerful but easy editing. I would defiantly buy this again.
