Pros

Has a monitor button, which mutes the music when you need to hear something without taking the headphones out.

2 agree

Does a good job of filtering out road noise and jet-engine noise.

2 agree

Uses AAA batteries, which can easily be replaced while traveling.

2 agree

Small and light-weight.

2 agree

A whole lot less hissing than the MDR-NC22

Cons

Does not automatically turn off, and it's easy to forget to turn them off.

2 agree

The cord tangles easily, and is difficult to wrap for storage.

2 agree

No battery level indicator, except for the power light (still works for a while, even when battery is too depleted to drive the power-indicator light).

1 agrees

Not comfortable enough for all-day usage. Does OK for trans-Atlantic flights, though.

1 agrees

The rubber can get pulled off and lost, and Sony doesn't make it easy to order just the size you want (replacements come in packs of 3 sizes).

1 agrees

Does not work for runners; there is too much cord-thump.

1 agrees

Sound quality is worse than some non-noise-cancelling headphones (comparing to NuForce NE-6), but better than many cheap ear buds.

1 agrees

There's faint hissing when no music is playing.

1 agrees

Monitor button does not have any way to pause audio playback. Sony needs to make a Bluetooth version that has playback controls and will pause playback when the monitor button is pressed.

Edit

The Sony MDR-NC33 is a noise-canceling, earbud headphone designed to reduce 90% of ambient noise. It features a lightweight, 1.1 oz design, making it easy to transport and comfortable to wear. Included on the inside are 13.5mm driver units engineered to handle up to 50 mW of power. Plus the unit comes with an in-flight plug adapter and 1.5m cord. Unfortunately, the MDR-NC33 relies on a conventional AAA battery, which means it’s not rechargeable. However, the unit comes with one free battery designed to provide 11 hours of audio playback.
