The Sony DSR-PD170 uses a newly-developed 1/3-inch 3CCD image system, each producing 380,000 pixels (340,000 effective) in the NTSC model, and 450,000 (400,000 effective) in the PAL model (branded the PD170P). According to a leaked document, the CCDs are capable of both interlace scan and progressive scan, which is useful for recording still images or shooting a moving subject and exporting selected frames to a computer. Sony DSRPD170 The camcorder features what Sony describes as a newly-developed high Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) 12x lens with a 58mm filter diameter. The camcorder produces 530 lines of horizontal picture resolution (in, we assume, NTSC and PAL). Sony DSR PD170 Sony has included Super SteadyShot, in which the horizontal and vertical movements are detected independently by the sensors. Sony DS-RPD170 The prism system located in the front of the lens adjusts and optically compensates for unsteadiness whilst simulataneously maintaining image quality.
