The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P31 is an entry-level, compact digital camera designed for non-professional photographers looking for an affordable solution. It hosts no true optical system, but does have a 2x digital zoom coupled with a 2MP CCD sensor. And unlike its immediate counterpart, the DSC-P3, the Cyber-shot DSC-P31 relies on AA batteries, which means it’s not rechargeable. Like its predecessor, however, the unit can capture extremely low-resolution MPEG videos at 320x240 (16fps), but it’s not restricted to 15- or 30-second clips. Users can keep recording until their included 8MB Memory Stick (or 128MB optional) is entirely full. Additional features include an LCD display for framing shots, a multi-burst mode for creating a single 1280x960 movie image via 16 smaller images, and slow shutter-noise reduction.
