The Samsung WB550 is a compact point-and-shoot camera featuring 24mm ultra-wide angle Schneider lens combined with a 10x optical zoom. It is a step up from the WB500 (CES 2009) and incorporates H.264 compression, a format that allows for 3-5x the recording length versus conventional MPEG video. It can in fact record high-definition 720p videos and highly detailed stills shots up to 4000x3000, all of which can then be transmitted via the HDMI port to a compatible HDTV set. Notable about the WB550 is that it incorporates both Optical AND Digital Image Stabilization technology, which automatically removes blurs and even fixes the effects of low lighting. Laced across the back is a large 3” screen, which unlike the WB1000 is NOT AMOLED. Additional features include a slew of intelligent technologies like Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection, and Beauty Shot.
