The Sony Alpha 500 is a digital SLR camera scheduled to be released on October 21st 2009. The Alpha 500 has a 12.3 megapixel CMOS image sensor and comes with a SAL1855 DT 18-55mm zoom lens when bought in a kit. The Alpha 500 uses Sony’s BIONZ processor, which they claim helps to achieve low-noise photos in low light scenarios at ISO 12800. Also included is a 3-inch tiltable LCD screen in order to take photos from irregular positions. The LCD tilts up or down 90 degrees, giving the user a variety of shot options. Users can shoot up to 4 frames per second, and take up to 1000 shots on one battery charge. The Sony Alpha 500 features 9-point AF (autofocus) with face detection technology to ensure the photographer’s subjects are as clear as possible. Another feature is Auto HDR mode, which can create high dynamic range images without the need for computer software. MSRP is set at $749.99.
