Edit

Shimano's SL-M310 is an entry-level shifter, and comes in both front and rear versions (i.e. left- and right-side of the handlebars, for front and rear derailleurs). The front version shifts between three crankset cogs, and the rear between 7 speeds on the cassette. The shift levers have an ergonomic design that allows thumb and forefinger shifting, with dedicated levers for up- and down-shifting (hence the "rapid-fire"). The boxed version of this product includes cables and housing. It can be used on a range of bicycles, though is mainly intended for mountain or hybrid models. It has an easily readable speed index with a bright red indicator.
