The Roku SD Player is one of two digital media streamers (HD SD, HD-XR) released in October 2009 as competitor models to the original Roku HD. The SD is the base model in the group, as it trades in Component, S-Video, and HDMI connections in favor of a single 480i composite video interface port. The result is a much less versatile unit, albeit at a more budget-friendly price. Like its peers, it can connect via 802.11b/g WiFi or 10/100 Ethernet, after-which users can stream content from the Internet directly onto a composite-compliant device. Additional features include pause, rewind, and play functions; MLB, Netflix, and Amazon support; and the potential for Facebook/Twitter/MSNBC/etc. streaming with the release of the Roku Channel Store.
