Frequently Asked Questions
Is this cage suitable for two male rats?
Yes, I have 14 in mine. Two males two females and the babies.. But if you house rats in it you have to fix the floor with the tiles you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. THe wire is spaced too far for their feet.
How big are the round holes in the platforms? For food dishes and/or tunnels?
They no longer make the holes, when mine arrived I called and asked them where they were? They told me that it weakened the plastic, however my own suspicions is that knowing how goofy ferrets are they kept inadvertently falling through. The cage is good if you start out with one or two adults but you could have four juveniles. I have ended up with 1 juvenile from Petco and 2 adults from the Animal shelter, so it is a bit small and I will probably add another cage story when I can afford too. The instructions that came with it were tiny and illustrated poorly, but the cage assembly is pretty intuitive anyway. The cage is light and easy to move, I have a connected heated garage where my ferrets live and once a month I do an extra thorough cleaning job of the cage and spray it with a hose I connect to the utility sink, the crud and waste water goes down the garage floor drain. The welding of the bars looks delicate, I always try to be careful, I am very satisfied with this cage so far.
