The Pioneeer Avic D3 is a multi-featured in-car GPS navigation system that aims to replace your standard car stereo. Along with the GPS functionality, the Avic D3 can play DVDs, CDs and mp3s as well as a AUX input available on the front of the player. The interface is a 6.1 inch touchscreen LCD, with a 4 button navigation and a twisting push button knob.
The GPS aspect of the Avic D3 works using information from 2 DVDs made by TeleAtlas. These DVDs provide route information including turn-by-turn instructions as well as provide you with gas stations, ATMs and restaurants. The obvious drawback is that the DVDs don't get updated and you are stuck with information available at the time of print (however you could opt to buy updated DVDs if needed). The information is available for the United States and Canda. A major drawback to the Avic D3 is its input system. Because of a single DVD slot, you are unable to view GPS and media at the same time, forcing you to switch DVDs when you want to switch viewing modes.
