Pepsi Max is a low-calorie, sugar-free cola, marketed by PepsiCo as an alternative to Peps and Diet Pepsi. Pepsi Max contains nearly double the amount of caffeine as regular Pepsi. Pepsi Max was first released in 1993 in Europe and by the end of 1994 it was being sold in over 20 countries. It took a while to get get legalized in the United States since the FDA had not yet approved ascesulfame potassium, which is one the ingredients in the drink.
A Pepsi Max Lime version was released in the United States in February 2010 under the name "Pepsi Max Cease Fire".
