The 12.1 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25 is a compact camera with many features, but remains easy to use even for beginners. The top of the line FS-series model, the DMC-FS25 features a 5x optical zoom, a 29mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens, and a 3.0 inch LCD screen. Panasonic has enhanced the Intelligent Auto Mode (iA) on the DMC-FS25 from the previous FS models to now include AF tracking and Intelligent Exposure functions, in addition to the standard Mega O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Face Detection. AF Tracking enables the user to "lock" the focus onto a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the need to hold the shutter button halfway down. Intelligent Exposure helps capture natural-looking images and continually monitors the light source in the shooting environment, automatically activating the backlight compensation function if needed. Face Detection accuracy has been increased in the FS25 to now provide continuous adjustment of the focus and exposure even if the face is turned sideways to the camera. Intelligent Scene Selector automatically selects whichever of 5 scene modes (Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, Night Scenery) best suits the shooting situation. Mega O.I.S prevents blurring from hand-shake, and Intelligent ISO Control prevents motion blur by adjusting the ISO sensitivity if the subject moves as the shot is taken.
Other features of the DMC-FS25 include a Venus Engine IV image processor, which features advanced signal processing technology, a shutter release time lag as short as 0.006 seconds, and supports a High Sensitivity mode that lets the camera capture subjects in near-total darkness without using a flash. The intelligent 3.0 inch LCD screen detects light conditions and automatically adjusts the brightness levels for viewing in sunlight conditions and dark places. It also helps preserve battery life. Additionally, the FS25 can record WVGA (848x480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second in addition to standard VGA (640x480), while all Lumix cameras can take 1920x1080 pixel high-definition quality photos that are ideal for full-screen viewing on a widescreen HDTV.
