Edit

The Onkyo TX-DS838 is a legacy, first-generation AV receiver featuring 5 channels, each powered by discrete power amplifier circuitry. Featured is integrated Dolby AC-3 Processing, 18-bit Delta Sigma DACs, and an auto-switched cooling fan for handling excessive loads. As can be expected, the TX-DS838 receiver only offers connectivity options for older devices such as DVD, LD, VHS. There is no HDMI support whatsoever. Performance-wise, the Onkyo TX-DS838 receiver is plagued by harsh mids and an under-performing bass level, which is why a separate equalizer and subwoofer are recommended. Other problems include a complicated OSD menu, and underpowered rears in surround mode, though the latter can be fixed by adding some amps. There’s also an A/B speaker switch, but they can’t be played simultaneously.
