The LS-11 is a digital voice recorder from Olympus' LS series and is specially designed for professional applications.  The recorder utilizes 24 bit/96kHz linear PCM recording which captures digital recordings as they are heard in higher quality than CD recordings.  It has high-sensitivity stereo microphones with high-quality microphone amplifier circuitry to capture every detail.  The device is designed with a monochrome backlit LCD display for controlling the functons and has a compact aluminum body.  The LS-11 is an upgrade to the LS-10 since it includes 8GB of internal flash memory and also has a built-in memory card slot that supports SD and SDHC formats.  It also offers file editing and management and is capable of recording audio in WMA, MP3, or WAV formats.  The recorder comes with Steinburg Cubase LE4 software and has a suggested retail price of $400.

Major, major bug. One of the unpleasant side effects of its bizarre file system is that you can only have and absolute maximum of 128 folders. So if you are planning to put a big SDHC chip in it and use it as an MP3 player, forget it!

And don't think you can work round this stupid limitation by using fewer folders and lumping several albums together. It also has a limit of 199 files per folder.

The most annoying thing is that this is not a limitation of the FAT file system. This is an entirely artificial limitation that Olympus has created itself. Olympus certainly knows how to screw up a potentially great product!

Be aware that the Voice-Sync function is NOT capable of resuming recording after any pause longer than 10 seconds maximum. Voice-Sync function is not like the VCVA (Variable Control Voice Activation) function in Olympus' other recorders.
