Cons

Autofocus component is fairly noisy - not recommended for candid nature shooting where silence is imperative

Lack of vibration reduction capabilities may limit action-shot capabilities - depending on skill level, some users may be better-suited to the 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR lens

1 agrees

Unit is relatively heavy, even amongst telephoto units - many users will resort to using a tripod/monopod stand for extended shooting applications

1 agrees

Not recommended for users who own a D40 or D40x model - unit is somewhat incompatible with these cameras, with auto-focus disabled due to profile discrepancies

Edit

The Nikon AF Zoom NIKKOR 80-200mm f/2.8D ED is a low-cost mid-range zoom lens for sports and nature photography. While it lacks top-range features such as Image Stabilization, it has the ability of keeping a fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, allowing for photography of moving subjects at a distance. 3 Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements are used inside the lens to improve resolution and contrast, and a Super Integrated Coating reduces internal flaring for true color representation. Distance information can be found on the lens itself for use with external lighting processes, and 77 mm screw-on filters can be attached for additional effects.
