The Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED close-up lens is one of Nikon's lower cost offerings. Like all the NIKKOR close-up lenses, the 60mm f/2.8G ED offers 1:1 maximum reproduction ratios, which means that it can provide lifesize portraits of small subjects. Though the price difference is not very substantial, this lens has quite a few more features than the other low-cost NIKKOR close-up offering, the 60mm f/2.8D. For example, the AF-S in the name of this lens indicates that it has a silent wave autofocus motor, which makes for quieter, quicker autofocus operation. The ED in the name of this product signifies the ED glass element contained therein, which minimizes chromatic abberation. The combined manual/auto focus mode allows you to move quickly and smoothly between the two focus modes with the flick of a switch. This lens is also equipped with Nikon's super integrated coating, which cuts ghosting and flare down significantly. These are all features that the 60mm f/2.8D does not have, and that the other low-cost offering, the AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR does. Also like the AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR, the 60mm f/2.8G ED lens is a G-type lens, which means that it does not have an aperture ring, and therefore the aperture must be selected from the camera body. The Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED close-up lens comes with CL-1018 flexible lens pouch,HB-42 Bayonet hood, LF-1 rear lens cap and LC-62 62mm snap-on front lens cap.
