I just looked up this issue on the Maytag website and you CAN turn the chimes OFF:

"To turn off the tones:

Touch any button or open the door to activate the controls. Hold the End Signal button for 5 seconds, all valid tones will be eliminated. This does not turn off the three short tones that occur when invalid selection is made."

Hope this helps :)

I can't believe no one here has asked about turning off the chimes. I have the W&D in the laundry room and when using both the washer and dryer it sounds like a symphony going on. Is there a way to PERMANENTLY turn these chimes off? Trying to get your kids to sleep? Forget it.

Every time you open or close the doors, or start or stop a cycle, this "QUIET SERIES" makes a "bing-bing-bing" chime that drives me NUTS!! What were they thinking????
