Matricom's G-Box Midnight MX2 is a media streaming device, meant to function as a standalone option for people who want to watch video or other content from Internet-based sources. Essentially it allows access to a wealth of streamed content, such as US TV channels, movies from Internet databases, live news and sports, Vimeo or YouTube. These are just a sampling, and there are many more apps and video sources that can be used. Local media can also be streamed, either via the MX2's hard drive or through a media card slot. The idea is that it connects directly to a TV, and acts as a computer that processes the video source for the TV to display.  This model is an upgraded version of Matricom's MX model, and it offers stronger processing power and the capacity to output 1080p content. This device uses over-the-air automatic updating and is intended to function as a plug-and-play device. It is marketed as an alternative to paying for digital cable or other video subscriptions by harnessing existent free sources of video.
