the warranty is not as it seems, only free for 12 months then costs £10 + postage for repair

Interesting, I will inquire about this. Might be for the UK only. I've replaced mine twice, and you only have to pay for return shipping.

Sucks, so this seems to fall under the 'limited' part of the Lifetime Warranty. Koss seems to maintain a pretty hands off approach with their international distributors - besides the "reasonable fee to cover handling and postage", they claim there may be further "local regulations". Sounds to me you might just be getting pinched by whoever is distributing there - or there might actually be some type of fee / tax / whatever...

at least they will repair and their repair fees are basically cheaper and lower than other makers..

I returned two Koss headphones for repair and they replaced a pair of Koss Pro4AAT and repaired my Portapro. No questions asked. I just paid the postage and handling. They stand by their products.
