Pros

Picture quality is excellent, rivalling that of a direct connection - involves minimal compression artefacts/coloration issues as experienced amongst lower-end units

1 agrees

Works fairly well when configuring a laptop to function as a desktop - additional components (printer, keyboard, mouse) offer instant "plug-and-play" connectivity

1 agrees

DisplayLink certification is ideal for users running multiple monitors - natively supports all features for reduced setup time

Cons

Difficult to recover device-connected monitor upon entering sleep mode - may require multiple reboots to regain functionality

1 agrees

May have a difficult time syncing lesser-known monitors and USB devices - some users report device-powering issues and perpetual reset bugs

1 agrees

Not recommended for Mac users - many user issues appear to arise from attempting to sync software drivers with hardware components through an Apple computer

1 agrees

Not compatible with some TV cards - users required to plug their card directly into the computer will find the device virtually useless

Edit

The Kensington K33926US is a universal docking station released by Kensington in mid 2009 for Windows-based PCs. It is compatible with all major brands of notebooks — including Acer, Asus, Compaq, Dell, etc. — and allows a user to connect a multiple of peripherals to their desktop via just one simple USB cable. The unit in fact includes five USB slots, two external speaker ports, one 10/100 Ethernet port, and a DVI interface; a DVI-to-VGA cable is included for connecting a VGA monitor instead. In fact, users can connect up to six monitors total, but five $79.99 Universal Multi-Display Adapters would be required. Signature to the Kensington K33926US is its auto-installation, as no CD is required for the initial setup.
