The Muon are a pair of extremely high end floor standing speakers created by KEF in tandem with industrial designer Ross Lovegrove. Only 100 were made, and standing 7 feet tall at 253 pounds each they are almost as big as they are expensive! They can handle amplifiers of up to 400W, while reproducing frequencies between 25Hz and 60kHz with a maximum output of 118dB. The shape is made possible by super-forming 6mm thick sheets of heated aluminum, while the inside has internal bracing and critical damping for acoustic treatment of the cabinet. A whopping 6 10" woofers are in each tower, with two facing the rear for low frequency directivity control. One 10" low-midrange driver rests just below center, and just above that is a 6.5" KEF Uni-Q mid-high range driver array with 1" high frequency tweeter nestled in the middle of the speaker. The speaker orientation is 4-way, meaning two channels of audio per unit, and it is a closed-box design using KEF's ACE sound absorption. This is a porous charcoal material similar to a water filter that takes in and releases air, allowing drivers in sealed cabinets to move more efficiently at high volumes. Although they have a very avant-guard look, a balance was reached between the designer's vision and what would be sonically acceptable.
