Edit

The appeal of the Iomega eSATA Hard Drive is based off of its performance. The eSATA, with 3Gbits/s is proclaimed to be 6 times faster than USB 2.0 or FireWire 400!, both standard Hard Drive connections. The Iomega eSATA Hard Drive comes with 500 GB of space, a connection cable, a quick install gide, HTML user manual, help files, a backup software license to software that can be downloaded off of the internet, and a one year warrenty. One downside is that the hard drive comes preformatted to FAT32, which means that anyone wanting the more flexible NTFS filing system will have to reformat when they receive it.  It is compatible with PCs and Macs, but the PCs need a Pentium II-class processor and Windows 2000 Professional or better and the Macs require OS X, version 10.1.5 or higher.

They use FAT by default, cause it ensures compatibility out of the box with Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's not that difficult to reformat it as one wishes.
