The Intel Pentium Extreme 955 is the first x86 dual-core microprocessor from the Smithfield series, initially launched on April 16th, 2005. A precursor to the Pentium D 820, 830, 840, and 805 models, the Extreme 955 is a 3.2GHz Hyper-Threading enabled CPU that supports MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology (EIST), Intel 64, and XD Bit. It features two 90nm Prescott cores on a single die with 1MB of L2 cache per core, and is designed for working with 945-, 955-, 965-, and 975-series Intel chipsets, as well as the nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition and ATI Radeon Xpress. Unlike its later-released peers, the Extreme 955 does support Intel Virtualization Technology, as well as an enhanced 1066MHz front side bus. The Intel Pentium Extreme 955 retails for $369.00 and comes with a 3 year limited warranty.
