The HP Pavilion dm3 is an entry-level notebook released in late 2010. While 2009's Pavilion dm3 offered users Intel or AMD dual-core processors, the 2010 edition offers Intel-only CPU choices. This year's model also offers up to 8GB of RAM compared to 2009's limited 5GB capacity. Also, graphics have been transitioned from the GMA 4500M HD to improved on-the-die CPU solutions. The Pavilion dm3 prominently features a software-based cooling system, which automatically adjusts temperature levels based on user preferences. HP’s Thermal Assistant software will automatically detect the location of the device based on a built-in accelerometer, allowing the dm3 to select between performance or cooling modes. This notebook is built from metal alloys and soft-to-the-touch plastics, which draw additional heat away from the bottom of the computer. Technically, the Pavilion dm3 features a 13.3-inch 720p-capable screen, an Intel Pentium or Core i5 processor and up to 640GB of hard drive storage. A chiclet-style keyboard comes standard, but can be upgraded to a backlit version if required. The HP Pavilion dm3 is Energy Star qualified.
