Pros

will be highly integrated into other Google applications - viewable from Maps, Gmail, etc...

6 agree

no text limit - due to the fact that it does not rely on SMS

6 agree

5 agree

automatically polls your phone / device's GPS, cellphone tower or WiFi connections to add a specific or general location "context" to any post

4 agree

allows seamless addition of video and images to your posts

4 agree

looser friend network than Facebook, but more tight than Twitter

4 agree

people understand streams a lot better now, so people should be posting better stuff

3 agree

integrates nicely with GMail

3 agree

"Like" this post feature .. missing from Twitter

3 agree

Comments below status updates, and @reply will send straight to email .. best of both worlds

3 agree

feels more personal than twitter..makes it more likely to reply to people

3 agree

More feedback/likes per post than twitter .. less complicated and easier to use than "@reply"

2 agree

will work with any HTML5 compliant browser - meaning accessible from any PC

2 agree

Upload mobile photos by sending them as attachment(s) to buzz@gmail.com with messge in the subject line

2 agree

  • Only 3 words are allowed.
Cons

promotes splintering of stream networks - now you have to check updates on Buzz, Facebook, Twitter, etc

6 agree

even if you see a comment in your buzz interface it still shows up as an unread message in your GMail inbox, have to click on that explicitly

5 agree

doesn't (yet) integrate with Google Mail for Domains

4 agree

Privacy issues

4 agree

no Blackberry, Windows Mobile or Symbian clients available at launch

3 agree

you have to use GMail.com

3 agree

not yet completely backwards compatible with Twitter - 'read only' so to speak

3 agree

still going to be difficult to get anybody to read what you're posting

3 agree

yet another thing you now must sign up for and become a slave to - hail Google!

3 agree

not as useful as Twitter for those who do not have mobile data connections / those who rely on SMS

2 agree

Buzz link is forced on the interface with no opt-in (can it be removed?)

2 agree

Should integrate better into GMail with updates showing up right in your Inbox

2 agree

confusing concept?

2 agree

totally unclear who you're supposed to be sending stuff to, it's very clear with facebook and twitter

2 agree

Readonly for "connected sites" at launch

2 agree

could confuse the GMail interface

2 agree

Not very useful without mass adoption

2 agree

stupid name

1 agrees

Makes Gmail painfully slow.

Edit

Introduced in February 2010, Buzz is the latest free cloud based application offered by Google. A mashup of Maps and Wave, Buzz improves upon simple SMS-based services like Twitter, allowing individuals to include location based information, as well as images, video and no-limit text entries with any post. As a Google service, Buzz will allow for tight integration with other popluar Google apps such as Gmail. For example targeting your 'buzz' to a specific individual with an @ symbol will actually be delivered to their Gmail / Buzz interface.

Welcome to ProductWiki Talk!

Talk is a platform for our community to talk about products. It's centrallized area where our community can come together and talk to each other.

To start a new conversation, simply type it in the text box found on this page and click post. You'll also find Talk on all product pages.

Other community members will see your post and have the opportunity to reply to you or simply "like" what you've said. If you've used #facebook, #twitter, #google_buzz, or forums you'll find many familiar elements. We tried to combine the best elements of social media and apply it to our niche.

We don't know exactly how everyone will use it, but here are some ideas to get you started:

- ask for advice about which product to get
- follow a new product launch
- ask for product support
- off-topic discussions about news, movies, sports

So what do you think?

I'm excited about the inception of ProductWiki Talk!! It will give the PW community a better outlet to discuss products with each other.

Here are some tips:

-type #-type product title- and you'll get a popup below that will allow you to tag your post
-use multiple # tags to link to multiple products
-use @-type user name- to direct your message to a specific user, it will show up in their "My Talk"
-use "My Talk" to keep track of your own conversations
-use "New Talk" to view all conversations and reviews on the site
-comment on other people's reviews to have them show up in "Top Talk"

works unbelievably well - my only suggestion so far is that comments / replies should be dated just like the original posts.

Hi. My name is V and I'm a ProductWiki addict. I've tried tearing myself away from it, but the last time I tried, things got so bad that I soiled my clothes. And well, even after washing them over and over again, they still smell like pee!

We've identified a few bugs since launch, and we're quickly working on them, and hopefully post the fixes in the next few days. I'm curious if anyone else has found any bugs, user interface, user experience, or other peculiarities.
