The Gibson J-45 Custom is a mid grade round-shoulder dreadnought acoustic guitar. Gibson first introduced the J-45 in 1942. The J-45 Custom is patterned after the original guitar combining vintage appointments with modern features. The guitar displays a floral and vine abalone pearl headstock inlay. The J-45 Custom is available in the model's original vintage Sunburst finish and Antique natural. The Custom has gold Grover rotomatic tuners with a gear ratio of 14:1.
The J-45 Custom is equipped with an Element Active Acoustic Pickup system from L.R. Baggs which features a low profile under-saddle element and an on-board preamp with removable volume control. The rosewood fingerboard of the Custom features traditional binding over the fret- ends and genuine mother of pearl classic dot inlays. The guitar sports the dovetail neck joint design which is one of the oldest methods of joining the neck to the body of the guitar. The process done entirely by hand allows the body and neck to become one solid piece of resonating wood without metal to interfere with vibration. The round-shoulder dreadnought body design of the Custom has a top that is constructed of AA-grade Sitka spruce while the back and sides are of pattern-grade Indian rosewood. The hand crafted rosette is a double-ring with an abalone-filled middle. The bracing of the Custom features a variation on the Gibson standard X pattern behind the sound hole. Each brace is hand scalloped with a set of tall thin braces for the back and another set of scalloped braces for the top.
