The aera 795 is an aircraft GPS unit from Garmin that offers a step-down from the company's aera 796 model. Viewable in both portrait and landscape orientations, this model features a 7-inch full-color touchscreen for clear, sunlight-readable operation. Garmin's own 3D Vision technology provides users with a comprehensive behind-the-aircraft display of their current surroundings, accessing the built-in terrain database to provide realistic land and water diagrams as well as runways and signposts. Screen view can be rotated by a simple swipe of the finger for maximized safety, with predictive terrain avoidance helping to anticipate towers or other nearby obstacles with the help of the unit's 5-hertz GPS engine. For maximal screen visibility, the 795 features four dedicated hard buttons at its bottom that represent "Menu", "Back", "Direct-To" and "Nearest" prompts. These controls cover the majority of all directional commands, with any further controls requiring quick access of the screen itself. In effort to reduce paper charts and excessive physical map referencing, the unit is also equipped to function as a Class I or II flight bag comprising VFR, IRF and IFR data. Multiple viewing styles are available for pilots that come from different schooling backgrounds, with U.S. and Jeppesen components amongst those selectable via Garmin's ChartView service. The 795 also features SafeTaxi technology for careful routing around popular airport zones, and included 2 serial ports for external device connectivity.
