Edit

TheĀ Garmin Forerunner 405 is a GPS watch designed to help runners train. This is similar to the Garmin Forerunner 305, but uses a more slim design for increased comfort and has a bezel touch control to quickly scroll through the options on the watch while on the move. While not included in the base model, the watch does use the ANT+ heart rate monitor and can use an optional foot pad for indoor training when a GPS won't help to track distance run. This watch is fully compatible with Garmin Connect, allowing wearers to upload information about their run for post analysis and comparison to past runs.

Features
  • High-sensitivity GPS receiver
  • Optional ANT+ heart rate monitor
  • Optional foot pad
  • Virtual Partner
  • Bezel touch control
  • Garmin Connect
  • Auto Lap
  • Interval training

Vibrating alerts are a smart idea for sure. To me, what stands out about this watch is the beautiful, easy-to-read display. It is *WAY* better than my #garmin_forerunner_405 . The best thing about the Garmin watches is actually the Garmin GPS website with it's awesome integration in to Google Maps. If Magellan gets this right, then this is a seriously awesome product.

I've had this watch for about 1 year, and like just about every one in the world who owns it, the rubber watch band broke down. First, it was the little loop that keeps the band tight to your wrist (the metal thingy fell out). Second, the little loop broke completely. Next, it was the actual holes where the metal goes through to set the desired tightness. Finally, the rubber broke down all the way down the seam.

It was brutal. Luckily they have a velcro replacement:

I just installed it yesterday, and I'm happy with this watch again. Here is the install video from the Garmin engineer themselves. It's funny that they say something to the effect "I can't imagine why anyone would replace the band more than once."
