In the laptop world Fujitsu likes being first; before it was the first LED laptop monitor (see Fujitsu Lifebook P7230), and now with the Lifebook T4220 they are the first to release a tablet with a bidirectional swivel. What this means is that you can turn the screen in either direction to switch the laptop from normal position to tablet position, whereas normal laptops can only swivel one way. Knowing that this extra functionality isn't enough to differentiate itself in the competitive laptop market, Fujitsu has added other features to make a name with the T4220.
The T4220 is available in a variety of configurations that retain the same physical size, weight and display size, but carry different components on the inside. The screen is one of the components that changes, with some configurations offering an indoor specific screen, an indoor/outdoor hybrid screen, and an outdoor specific screen. Each screen retains the tablet properties allowing for the use of stylus navigation, and digital ink painting and writing. Touchscreen capability is available while the laptop is in the traditional tablet position, or when the screen is upright with the keyboard exposed.
Other features Fujitsu is promoting are the modular drive bay that allows for an extra battery, or different kinds of optical drives to be used; fingerprint scanner for extra security; and integrated wireless networking that allows for a/b/g/draft-n connection. On the WiFi side the Lifebook features a split antenna that runs along the side of the laptop's screen to allow for a claimed greater connection reliability and speed.
