Edit

The ER4 series, made up of the ER4S, ER4P and ER4B have been Etymotic's top-of-the-line canal phone series since their introduction in 1991. The ER4P are specifically targeted towards more mobile and/or value-oriented consumers, with their enhanced bass response without the need for cumbersome and often expensive amplification. Utilizing rubber triflange or foam tips the ER4 series are designed for outside noise reduction, and audiophile level sound quality. A good pick for those who desire high quality sound reproduction, yet also travel often or simply wish to listen without the discomfort and risk of listening at high volume levels.

Had to send my ER4P in after they developed a right channel intermittence. Turns out they were in pretty poor condition from previous owners and needed both the transducers and cable replaced. Etymotic charged me $50 for the out-of-warranty repair and agreed to ship them back to me with UPS express (so I didn't get charged like I had last time).

Etymotic uses UPS to ship things worldwide, I got hit with some pretty nasty charges buying new tips (USA to Canada). You can (and must) request USPS for inexpensive items, or bug them to upgrade you to UPS Express. I have a replacement pair on the way and I'll see if I get charged. Great company, USA support center, very customer friendly, fast communication, and very fair.

These IEMs allow the use of the Black Foam Sleeves (Olives) by Shure, which will make them quite a bit more comfortable to wear for some.
