The international ISO print speed standard
Print speed is critically important when buying a printer or all-in-one. But how do you compare print speeds when different manufacturers measure it in different ways? Now you can. Much like the “MPG” ratings on new cars, there’s now an industry standard for measuring print speed, which allows for an “apples-to-apples” comparison between different printer models and brands. The International Organization for Standardization (widely known as ISO) developed this industry-approved and internationally accepted standard, specifically for inkjet printers and all-in-ones. It measures “out of the box” (default) print speeds using “real world” printing scenarios, so you can be sure you’re getting a product that performs at the speed you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a way to remotely turn on the printer?

One thing to be aware of with this printer is that the Epson software allows for sleep and auto-off settings. Meaning, if you don't use it often, then the settings might turn it completely off.
To access this, you bring up the printer's properties, then click on the Maintenance tab. Click "Printer and Option Information". Set the Power Off Timer to "Off" if you never want it to completely turn off. The same screen allows you to set the Sleep Timer to 3,5,10 or 15 minutes. This puts the printer in a power save mode, but will wake up when you try to print to it.

  • Google cloud print ready?

Yes, it works with Google cloud print and the software helps to walk you through setting it up.

  • Does the printer come with regular size ink cartridges?

Yes, however the regular size cartridges do run out rather quickly. I just ordered the XL cartridges from Epson to have on reserve. The XL lasts much longer, but then of course it depends on what kind and how much printing you're doing. If you have heavy printing needs, you may want to invest in a laser jet printer. The printer will cost more, but you won't be replacing ink so often. I absolutely love this printer, it's all in one and I can print from any computer on our home network as well as my iPhone - iPad. Easy set up as well.
