NHL Slapshot is an arcade-style hockey video game from Electronic Arts and EA Canada that offers an alternative to the company's NHL 11 game. Similar to NHL 2K11 from Take Two, Slapshot is exclusive to the Nintendo Wii console and is set to release on September 7th, 2010. Aimed towards younger gamers, this game features "Pee Wee" mode, a method of gameplay that begins with kids playing hockey on a backyard ice rink that progresses into amateur and college leagues before reaching the NHL. A dedicated hockey stick controller is included with the game that takes on the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii sensor bar, allowing players to turn, shoot, and body-check through a variety of different motions. Alternative to other leading hockey video games, Slapshot features less of a learning curve and has a lower overall difficulty, resulting in higher-scoring games and potentially increasing appeal to youth gamers. The game is endorsed by Wayne Gretzky, who appears as both a regular playable character and a character in Pee Wee mode. Slapshot also features the latest NHL teams and athlete rosters, as well as updated versions of classic player modes like the Stanley Cup finals.
