The Optiplex 990 is a desktop computer from the Dell company. Incorporating a modern aesthetic with Silver grille highlighting, this model is available in four different form factor options making it suitable for many different home office and business environments. Intel's second-generation Core processors are offered in i3, i5 and i7 denominations, with "vPro" management technology featured on select models. Full support of Windows 7 and Vista operating systems is offered in both 32 and 64-bit quantities depending on processor strength, with additional support of Ubuntu Linux and nSeries FreeDOS. DDR3 memory up to 16 gigabytes is available across a maximum of 4 DIMM slots, with numerous hard drive options including 3GB/s SATA drives up to 1-terabyte and solid state drives up to 128 gigabytes. The 990's stock DVD-ROM drive can be upgraded to include DVD+/-RW compatibility and Blu-Ray disc support, while the integrated Intel HD graphics card can be supplemented with one of three AMD RADEON HD chipsets. Users can also arrange to have their computer pre-loaded with software applications and peripherals for immediate use, with support for up to four displays enabling optimized multitasking. The Optiplex 990 also features a number of security forces in both hardware and software form, and has been certified an eco-friendly device by Energy Star and EPEAT.
