The D-Link DCS-5300 is a wired pan/tilt/zoom network camera designed as a budget-friendly, high-grade competitor to a traditional webcam. Unlike a webcam, the network camera hosts its own CPU and Web Server, which means it can be accessed from anywhere via Internet Explorer 5.X. To keep the price from becoming saturated, the manufacturers opted to rely on a relatively weak 320x240 resolution, which is in fact lower than even the average webcam. Regardless, the DCS-5300 hosts a bevy of other advanced features to make up for it—including integrated motion detection, a microphone for capturing audio as well, and bundled software for scheduling records and triggering motion detection.
