The Coby Kyros MID7015 is one of two bare-minimum, entry-level touchscreen tablets (MID7005, MID7015) featuring the Android 2.1 (Éclair) OS. In particular, the weaker MID7015 inherits its sibling's 7" resistive touchscreen display, WiFi connectivity, a 1080p-compatible HDMI output, and 4GB of internal memory. The difference is that it doesn't have an attached leather case. Plus memory expansion has been limited to just 16GB. It is however more lightweight (200g) and portable. Plus the ARM1176 processor has been replaced with a Telechips TTC8902 one, though both are 800MHz, which means the change is negligible. Like its counterpart, the Coby Kyros MID7015 is much more like an e-reader than it is a tablet.

Additional Information

Despite a weak processor, the Coby Kyros MID7015 and its sibling include two important apps: Aldiko E-Book and AppsLib. The former provides access to eBooks, while the latter provides access to an Apps marketplace.

Features
  • Entry-Level Éclair Tablet
  • Android 2.1 OS
  • Telechips TTC8902 CPU (800MHz)
  • 4GB Flash Memory
  • 7” Resistive Touch Display (800x400)
  • Accelerometer
  • IEEE 802.11b/g
  • HDMI C (1080p/720p) Output
  • Stereo Headphone Output
  • Microphone Input
  • Full-Size USB Host (Keyboard/Mouse)
  • MicroSD Expansion (16GB)
  • Rechargeable Battery
  • Aldiko E-Book App
  • AppsLib Marketplace

Bought one of these and I think they are pretty good for the money paid (it's not an iPad). I did have a hard time finding a case for it. However, found a small company that makes a pretty good sleeve for this unit and sells them for only $8.95 with free freight at www.nuvo-tek.com.

By the same token, if anyone knows of where I can buy a case (not a sleeve) that is a good fit for the this Kyros unit, please let me know.

Thanks

We bought a Coby Kyros for our son for Christmas a d we are currently on number 3 and headed to get all our money back!!! Piece of crap! Constantly freezes. Most time can't pull up apps. I would rather spend the extra money on an upgraded ipod! this is rediculous! I will most likely never buy anything Coby!

What a piece of junk. The screen freezes all the time. Downloaded Android market because AppLib is garbage. Now we can download good apps but with the screen freezing all the time, whats the point. We are returning this weekend.

It seems to be happening within the last few days. I am sure it is because so many people are trying to access the crappy servers to download things. I love the tablet so far, but I performed a hard reset on it and lost ll the apps i actually WAS able to download now that the applib isn't working, im stuck with basically a browser.
Its pretty irritating and you can bet I will be taking it back if it doesn't begin working soon. Coby is losing customer who would have vouched for them and they are giving Android a bad name,

Did the Tech Support tell you when they can fix the server? I just bought it. Hopfully, it will not take too long. Otherwise, I will just return it.

I got this as a present..and the app store has worked ONCE for about 30 minutes, let me download about 7 CRAPPY games that are not even fun and then it doesn't work now.. I cant even get the internet to connect. Everytime I try to go to a website, it tells me it cant connect and to check all these things. I am taking this back TODAY!

I'm new to Android OS. Is there a good site where I can learn all the basics? The downloadable manual assumes the purchaser knows the system because it doesn't go into enough details. For example, in Spare Parts, there End Button Behavior and it says "Select End (red) button action". What the heck is an End Button? What does it do and for what reason? The drop down menu doesn't explain anything, you have to select an option. For what? So, the manual NEEDS to be a true manual and explain everything in excruciating detail. I talked to Tech Support regarding the server being down and asked is there anyplace we could go to find out it was down and she said no, the tech support people have asked Coby to put something up on the website notifying customers (of course, Coby can't do that--it would alert potential customers that this tablet has issues). The server was up this morning 12/31/10 but went down when the Tech Support checked. She said she was on it this morning. I also asked is there another place we can get our apps and she was apologetic while saying no, Appslib is the only source. My spouse bought my tablet from Home Shopping Network and I have less that 30 days now to return it. If this isn't resolved soon, it is going back ASAP and I'm lodging a complaint with HSN on the customer review of the product. Please Coby and Appslib, get your acts together.

I had the same problem and ultimately just used the reset button to set the unit to factory specs. I have the MID 7005, not the 7015 but they appear very similar in setup. The reset button is located next to the expansion card slot. Press and hold it using the tipp of a paper clip or other small object. You will have to reinstall any apps that you previously downloaded. So far I havent had a recurring problem like that. Good luck...
