Edit

Known as a pristine coffeemaker, Chemex employs all of the chemically correct methods for brewing. Its hourglass shaped flask is made entirely of glass, a chemically inert material that does not absorb odors or chemical residues. The Chemex Glass Coffee Maker has no moving parts and will work forever, unless it is dropped or in some other way demolished. Chemex filters are made of the highest quality filter paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I keep the coffee warm?

You can put some hot water in an insulated serving carafe while you are making the coffee, then empty the water and pour the coffee into the insulated carafe, and it stays hot for a long time.

  • What are the benefits of the classic (wood holder) vs the all glass carafe with handle?

It is personal preference and comfort. Brew-wise it doesn't affect functionality. The wood handle is easier for me to hold, and it doesn't get hot when pouring.

  • Does it make cold water coffee?

Since "cold brewing" requires steeping ground coffee for up to 12 hours, using the Chemex as the first step would not be possible. However, if you were to steep the grounds in a pitcher (preferably glass) and then pour the contents of the pitcher - grounds and all - into the Chemex decanter with the Chemex filter in place, you would get a very clear, grounds-free cold brewed coffee concentrate.
