Does this unit have a fan in it? Does this unit stay cool enougth on the bottom/sides to use on a dinner table? I want to use it for Shabu Shabu.
No fan ...not needed it stays cool. I used it for home canning ran for hours plenty of heat where u want it none elsewhere
I am interested in a hot plate to use for canning both pressure and waterbath. Can this hot plate be used for that purpose?
I have used the hot plate for pressure cooking. I have not canned with it, yet. It is able to keep pressure without being on high I mean that I turn it to high to heat up and vent, then I am able to turn the heat down and it is able to maintain pressure. If I remember correctly, I cooked something under pressure for an hour with no problem. I believe it would work for pressure canning because of that. I have no doubt that it would work for waterbath canning. I am glad that I bought the hot plate. It really comes in handy. I have had no problems with it at all.
Can the coil be removed or lifted up to clean the drip tray?
Yes. The element lifts up and the drip pan can be removed and cleaned. The unit is mostly commercial grade stainless steel and very easy to keep clean.
