The BCI600XL Smart Scoop is Breville's ice cream maker with automatic hardness settings. It's the first ice cream maker that automatically senses the hardness of the mixture based on your selection and keeps it ready until it's time to serve. The Breville BCI600XL Smart Scoop is made of BPA free materials, features a child lock, and when your dessert is ready will sound an alert beep or one of three musical tunes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is it worth the money for the results u receive?

This seems a well engineered product. The concerns you have perhaps should relate to ice cream makers in general. The good news is that you can make very good ice cream... We now eat mostly fruit ice cream and use a lot of (fresh and/or frozen) fruit to make it. You can't buy it like this. On the other hand, its heavy, a little noisy, and you need to make a certain amount of ice cream to make it operate properly (not too much and not too little). Thus, the Breville is a good machine and the issue is more "do you really want an ice cream maker"

  • Can I simply pour in milk, eggs and sugar without freezing them first?

Alas, the process of making ice cream is much more involved! But very rewarding! Look online for some ice cream recipes (Alton Brown has a great one, obviously). This machine comes into play at the last step of any of them- "pour into your ice cream maker and follow manufacturer's instructions." Ice creams (esp custards, since you mentioned eggs) are a careful balance of emulsified fats, dissolved sugars, integrated air and flavor agents added at just the right step of the process. While this machine is not a "bread machine for ice cream" is does have very subtle settings that allow you to adjust to the temperature level of your product, how long you pre-chill the ingredients, and has a keep cold feature if you forget about the machine for a while! It's fun work, and worth taking the leap!

  • Can it make soft-serve style ice cream?

It can make the same soft ice cream, but it doesn't dispense it in the way a soft-serve machine does (no nozzle) so you'd have to take the ice cream and then use a pastry bag, ziploc with the corner cut off or something similar to get the dispensing effect.
