The BenQ MP512 projector is a lower end model included in BenQ’s family of basic digital projectors. This projector is engineered to operate very quietly at a claimed 26dB and uses special anti-vibration and ventilation components in its design. It projects at SVGA resolution (800x600) at a brightness of 2200 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2500:1. Inputs include standard VGA connectors, S-Video, and analog video, as well as a RS232 serial port for communication. The unit also comes with a remote control and closed captioning support. Texas Instruments’ Brilliant Color(TM) technology boosts mid-tone colors and increases the overall brightness of the projected image. The MP512 also comes with wall color correction to allow different surfaces such as a blackboard to be used as a projector screen while maintaing consistent color.
3D color management also allows the user to adjust hue saturation and gain, providing a high level of control over the picture quality of the projected image. The MP512 comes in two models, the standard MP512 with a throw ratio of 2:1, and the MP512ST (short throw) with a throw ratio of 0.9:1. This means that the MP512ST can be placed much closer to the projection surface while still creating a large image, something that is useful if you don’t have a lot of space.
