Frequently Asked Questions
Can the audible beeps be totally disabled ? Its fine for me to monitor it only via PC with USB. I cannot have it beep at all in my environment,
If you install the included powerchute software, you can completely silence the unit by unchecking the enable PowerChute notifications sound option. One of the features of the unit is that you can install the Powerchute software to easily configure the APC and then, if you don't want to use the software regularly, you can either choose not to have it start with bootup, or even fully uninstall it from your PC and the APC remembers and uses the configuration you set. This is very convenient if you are using the APC on a non-PC device, such as a cable or FIOS DVR, Roku, or other set top box that takes several minutes to completely reboot even after a power glitch that only lasts about a second. The only caveat is that if you are using the APC to control delays in shutting down a PC or PC connected device as the battery depletes (during a power failure) , you need to keep the USB cable connected between the APC and the PC.
Vacationing should I disconnect BE550G & battery & shutdown Time capsule, modem, printer & iMac desktop
When I leave for an extended period, I always shutdown my computer and printer. I would leave the BE550 on as it still provides surge protection in the event there is a power surge while you are gone. Not sure about the Modem, but I never turn that one off.
Will BE550G w/ iMac 21.5" OSX 10.9.3;Airport time capsule/router & modem to battery and surge & Pinter to surge shutdown itself in power failure.
Anytime power goes out completely there is a slight delay before the battery backup kicks in however it is very slight and does not usually affect what is plugged in to the battery backup side. they shouldn't go down but the router and time capsule might lose connection for a few minutes. I would not recommend plugging your printer into the BE550G at all. Use a separate power strip surge or an electronics surge protector that regulates the power. I have had many users over the years plug printers into their battery backups and 97% of the time the printer ends up killing the battery backup unit.
