The AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition is a mid-cost CPU. AMD recommends combining this processor with their 8 series chipset and HD 6000 graphics, for a high quality gaming experience with smooth flow. This 3.6GHz unit is promoted by AMD as their fastest quad-core processor to date (featuring unlocked clock multipliers). The packaging of the Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition is socket AM3, which supports both DDR2 and DDR3 memory. To keep the processor cool, this CPU has 125 watts of thermal design power. The Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition comes with 2MB of L2 cache and 6MB of L3 cache. This model differs from the higher cost Phenom II X6 1065T model in that the Phenom II X6 1065T has six cores, 3MB of L2 cache, runs at 2.9GHz, and has a relatively low 95 watt thermal design power.
