Edit

The Phenom II X4 965 is a quad core processor from AMD, released in late 2009. This 3.4GHz processor has been designed as a high performance component, rated at 140W max TDP. Compared to the 65W (TDP) AMD Phenom II X4 910e, this processor uses 75 watts more power. The X4 965 features 2MB of L2 cache and 6MB of L3 cache on a 45nm chip design. In terms of motherboard compatibility, sockets AM2, AM2+ and AM3 can be used. For memory, DDR2 (up to 1066MHz) or DDR3 (up to 1333MHz) can be used. The general consensus amongst reviewers indicates that overclocking is well supported, but will use a fair amount of extra power while doing so. Those looking for the best overclock results will have to invest in a large heatsink for heat dissipation. Users looking for a competitively priced quad core CPU that doesn’t sacrifice performance should find the AMD Phenom II X4 965 more than acceptable.
